Alyssa Mt. Pleasant was the founding Program Director for the Native American Scholars Initiative at the American Philosophical Society (APS) in Philadelphia. From 2017 to 2020 she worked with the APS Center for Native American and Indigenous Research to establish three programs connecting campus and community-based researchers with archival collections: digital knowledge sharing workshops, an intensive undergraduate summer research program, and tribal college workshops. As Program Director of this initiative, funded by the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, Dr. Mt. Pleasant also supported post-doctoral and dissertation fellows working in Native American and Indigenous Studies.
